This paper examines the effect of market-led approaches to university management in Nigeria, particularly the impact of deregulation on the quality of education. The study provides an overview of the Nigerian university system, highlighting the challenges faced by universities in the country. It then explores the impact of deregulation on university funding, autonomy, and governance. The study also examines the consequences of market-led approaches for the quality of education, including the potential for academic corruption, declining standards, and reduced access to education for disadvantaged groups. The paper concludes with recommendations for policy makers on how to balance market-led approaches with the need to maintain academic standards and promote equity in higher education.
